About that new Pledge to America thing

By now I'm sure everyone has heard about the new Republican Pledge to America, so I won't bother going over it here. I was interested, though, in hearing what Southern Illinois Republican John Shimkus had to say about it. Not because he's my congressman. He is not. But because he was such a big part of the Contract for America, which in the end, he broke so fucking easily.

You can read the Carmi Times for some obviously prepared and predictable, talking point style quotes from Shimkus. Or, you can listen to him on RiverBender.com, which appears to be a radio station's web site:

I think people need to remember that Republicans were in the majority at one time and we got fired.
So [cackling] yeah we got fired because, uh we kind of moved away from our core principles.
I think there's a renewed effort to do what we say and say what we do.
So I would just, people will just have to hold us accountable.

That was bizarre. But already I'm getting the impression this pledge is just another gimmick.
