Phil Hare does care

There's an anti Phil Hare (D-17 Ill.) ad running on TV that contains a clip of Phil saying he doesn't care about the constitution. This is completely untrue and taken out of context.

The clip is part of video that was captured shortly after the new health care legislation was passed earlier this year. I'm sure we've all seen this scenario play out in other instances by now. But basically, a person or a group of people, under the guise of being concerned constituents or citizen journalists, ambush a politician, and with video camera rolling, blast him or her with questions until they get the sound bite they want. Something like that happened with Phil Hare.

Now, that clip has been fed to the National Republican Congressional Committee, which is using it as ammunition in an effort to try and unseat Phil Hare in the upcoming election.

In case you don't know, Phil Hare is one of our hardest working members of congress. Phil Hare not only cares about the constitution, he cares more about working men and women than probably any other member of congress. When Phil Hare says he's on our side, those aren't just hollow political words to get re-elected. He truly means it and he proves it again and again. And, Phil does care about the constitution (if I didn't say that already).

Shortly after the incident with the citizens, Phil put up his own video reply where he explains that he didn't care about a constitutional challenge specifically on the health care bill. (See it for yourself here.)

Phil Hare, I am proud to say, is my congressman, and I hope he continues to be my congressman. We need him and more like him.
