Birds Circling the Statehouse

Every evening starting at sunset, mostly during the fall, these birds fly around the grounds of the Illinois Capitol Building and much of the downtown area. They make an awful squawking noise, pooping all over the place, until they land in the trees, where they continue squawking and pooping. It's a major nuisance. I can remember this going on since I was a teenager. It's probably been going on a lot longer.

The groundskeepers have experimented with many things over the years to get these birds to go away, including fire crackers, shooting off guns (presumably with blanks), and fake birds. The birds go away for a little while, but they always come back. A few years ago, the city even hired a bird whisperer, but he died. I think the birds are here to stay.

No, no, that bird whisperer isn't dead, he's probably just pining for the fjords.
