Following yonder star

Angela Marie

I only met her for a few seconds on a cold, but sunny Sunday afternoon in November. She was wearing a thigh-length red wool coat.

She stopped me on the corner of College and Vine, where we exchanged a few words. As she was walking away, she said, “my name’s Angela.” I replied, “my name is Marie.” And she said, with the sunniest smile I can remember in a long, long time, “that’s my middle name!”

I never saw her again, although I did look for her.

I later learned that on a cold and rainy Saturday morning in December, Angela Marie passed away. Every day I’ve been looking for her obituary, but it never appeared. So, I finally called the coroner’s office. I found out that she was 49, was sent to a funeral home in Chicago, and she has a daughter in Michigan.

Rest in peace, Angela Marie. And while the memory of your red wool coat is fading, I'll never forget your smile.

A sad but intriguing story. That pic is pretty intriguing also.

Okay, so who is that standing by the door and why did they take out Frosty?

Quite lovely, Marie, and sad. 49 is much too young.

I have a sister, who is also my goddaughter, named Angela Marie. She'll be 38 in March. She has twop boys and a girl.

Love the old-timey Christmas lights. When I lived with the folks, we used to use those small painted bulbs on our tree and the larger painted ones on our roof. Those bulbs got red hot. How we didn't burn our house down will always be a mystery. :)

Rob, I agree, it is much too young.

Dave, I think what you're seeing next to the door is actually whatever is on the Ferris wheel. Maybe. But, I like your imagination -- made me think it could be Big Foot.
