Lonely world is so cold

There's a story in today's news that former Jersey County Judge Thomas Russell died Monday in a plane crash in the mountains of Guatemala.

Many years ago, Judge Russell was assigned to one of my then boss's cases in Sangamon County. I was in the courtroom for the entire trial. It was in the old county building (now Springfield police building). My first thought when I heard the news, was to call my former boss so we could talk about it. But then I remembered he died, too.

I have no idea what the judge was doing in Guatemala. But I'm sure it was something good for humankind. He was a good person. Rest in peace, Judge Russell.

Sorry about the sad news. There are more details at the Alton telegraph. It sounds like he was a great man.
