After the blizzard

More can be found on the SJ-R's snow blogs. Yesterday. And today.

The driveway is in there somewhere:

Ah, there it is (sorta):

My street:

On Laura's block, everybody moved their cars out of the road and got plowed curb to curb:

I hope the great dig out is going well. How unusual is this sort of thing for the Springfield area and how long will the snow probably last?

Well, my daughter and her boyfriend came back and dug out the driveway tonight. I'd do it, if I could. Still waiting for the city to clear the street.

This much snow at one time is very unusual for Springfield. We've had several winters recently where I didn't even put on my boots, if that tells you anything. The paper said we had 13 inches on New Years Day in 1999, and before that I think they said we had about 15 or so inches around 1900.

And it's going to last a while, especially since we're headed for sub zero temps tonight.

Here's a pic of Lake Shore Drive today. Grateful I'm not in that.

Dave, you'll appreciate this: I once lived in a town that regularly got over 150 inches of snow every winter.

Yeah, I saw that round of Arctic air going through MSP too and it looks like there's another one coming around the beginning of next week. I'm seriously thinking of chaining myself to one of the palm trees along Ocean Blvd.

I meant to add that 150" of snow is way more than the Mpls. average. That's more like 50" with the occasional year where it pushes 100". Where was the 150"? Are you a Yooper?

Lovely pictures. Hope the aftermath isn't too messy.
