Saturday musings

benedictine-2011-06-25.jpg

* I meant to mention I got an Android phone back in February. I totally love it. Best technology decision I made in a long time.

* We had such high hopes for ethanol from corn at one time. This reader comment in an article in the Galesburg paper about the subject has a lot of truth in it:

The subsidies are just a way to hide the true cost of ethanol. Put the cost at the pump and let consumers decide if this is the way they want to fuel their cars. The other hidden cost of ethanol is at the grocery store. The use of food to make fuel pushes higher the cost of eating. The US has many untapped sources of energy that the government refuses to develope and would be a better use of resources than burning our food supply in our cars.

* This is our weather right now:

* My daughter, Allie shot an amazing photo in downtown Fayetteville last night.

* Finally, in this photo, my friend, Dan has captured the end of lands like I always imagined it. If you could live the rest of your life anywhere in a pup tent, wouldn't that be it?

Hey, Marie:

*Re: ethanol: Yeah. T
*Like the Fayetteville picture. Wonderful moment.
*Thanks for calling out that picture. As to your question: Yes, that's place or somewhere very close by.

I love both pics. Love street art. Dan's pic reminds me of Local Hero, one of my favorite movies. There's a guy who lives in a shack on a Scottish beach and just survives on whatever washes up on shore. I could see doing that for a few weeks. :)

It looks like there are a couple of ghosts in the side frosted(?) windows of your pic. The other two are great too.

I'm with you on ethanol. And I worry about the impact ethanol plants have on water resources. It's still a pretty hefty impact even though plants have become much more efficient lately.

I hope the storms didn't hit too hard this weekend. I think today was our first without rain in over a week.
