In the era of the full moon

Having made it about four miles past the rampaging river, they looked at each other and smiled. It was time to breathe. She reached over and touched his arm. Things were going to be okay, again. The past was behind them. Really behind them. They both knew it. They'd gotten out with their souls in tact. And they were still together.

Lost in thought about all that happened, and the life they would make somewhere out there, he began to sense something was wrong with the semi-truck. He said, "it sounds like we're getting a flat tire, but it doesn't feel like it. Strange." He pulled onto the shoulder to stop, even though there were no cars to be seen and wouldn't be for a long time. He asked her to get out and take a look at the rear tires on the passenger side.

He reached behind the seat to feel for the antique Benjamin Franklin with the broken trigger. Even though it would do them no good, it gave him some comfort. She climbed back in and locked the door. The look of fright on her face was not what he expected. They so wanted it to be all over. Needed. They were too tired.

His breath and his heart caught in his throat, he demanded, "what?"

From my upcoming action adventure doomsday novel, "Escape from Clinton." Maybe.

Edit to add: There will be no zombies. (In response to the phone calls.) (Also, I'm sorry my stories scared you as a small child. You never told me.) (Also, also, I've never told a zombie story and I never will.)

Nice. Didn't realize you were a writer too. Is that Clinton, Iowa? Or Clinton, Bill?

Thanks, Pete. I take that as a great compliment coming from you.

Thank you, Rob. I just need some time to seriously start writing it.

I don't know. A source with a source with a source in Peoria tells me nobody gets out of Clinton. ;)

I know, Dave. I was thinking about driving over there to do a little research, but I was thinking that would be just about the time something would happen and I wouldn't get out.
