The stuff in that bag? Just today's outgoing mail.

* From 1948 to today, the 183 Air Guard firefighters worked their last shift tonight. I have mixed thoughts and emotions about this. But for now I'll just say, good luck and I hope everyone lands on their feet.

* Springfield is getting a new grocery store. And not only a new grocery store, but a new company. That's got to be a good sign of something.

* Island Girl, carrying only a backpack, made a very unusual stop in Springfield last Sunday on her way from north of the Hudson Bay to Chile.

“These high-Arctic birds, when it gets to be fall and winter, there is no light, no food, and it’s freezing cold,” he said. “Those birds have to leave. They have to go somewhere to make a living.

It looks like she went from here almost straight down I-55 to the Gulf of Mexico (right past your backyard, Rob).

I had some more working thoughts, but they've escaped me for the moment. So, good night.

Island Girl has a thing for Springfield. According to the tracking map, she was in Springfield, Louisiana yesterday at 15:00 UTC (10AM CDT). Springfield is about 30 miles west of CrabAppleLane (Bush, LA).

That is an amazing story, Marie. GEAUX Island Girl.

That is a cool find. That bird can put some miles on in a day.

Thanks for the comments. I've been sitting on the edge of my seat since she reached the Gulf of Mexico. I can't wait until she hits dry land.

Looks like she followed the coast. Smart bird. GEAUX Island Girl. :)

Thanks for this find, Marie. What a treat.

You're welcome, Rob. Also, I don't remember ever being so worried about a bird as when Island Girl was over the Gulf of Mexico. Big exhale when she reached Texas.
