Long distance information

Our power plant. From a distance

* Two amazing photos from space of the Mississippi River from August of 2012 and August of 2011.

* If you're on Facebook and you're a bit of a river rat, you might like following the Commander of the Mississippi Valley Division of the Army Corps of Engineers for drought updates. This is from today:

Channel closure due to grounding at mile 524.6 on the lower Mississippi River. A northbound motor vessel ran aground with 28 barges, 10 loaded with dry cargo and 18 empties. Channel closed from mile 524-535, which is in the current U.S. Coast Guard safety zone. The Coast Guard is not allowing any traffic at this time to enter the safety zone. Currently, there are 31 northbound and 75 southbound tows in the queue. No estimate on when the channel will be opening at this time.

You don't get that on the news. Also, he's got links to other Corps of Engineers Facebook pages on the right.

* Give me Memphis Tennessee, by the Rolling Stones in 1963. No soul, yet. But, so fine.
