We've come a long way

I like the shape of this house, even though that one wall has no windows. And even though the brick has five coats too many of paint, I like the color. Notice the coal chute door in the foundation.

* In case anyone was wondering, my fondness for Detroit comes from a river, a boat, a disco. It's where I learned to drive a stick shift in a little, black XJS on a snow packed road under a canopy of snow covered trees on a moonlit night by someone who spoke very little English. (Okay, I tried to learn.) But, most of all, the people are very tough and so inspiring. "A public flogging by a red-faced mob."

* Mitt is down; out looms next.

* "Romney is trapped by a desperate desire for legitimacy. He is a square — in more ways than one — trying to squeeze himself into the conservative circle of trust."

* I know it's too soon to say this, but I'll say it anyway. The people of the Republican Party have to be wondering right about now why they couldn't ever get anyone to beat Barack Obama.

* We're changing day to day.

I want to see Detroit sometime, just to get an understanding of what is alive and what is dead. I've seen videos, but I want to see it first hand.
