Sunday thoughts

Same tree, one year and one day before.

* This is the first weekend of October. This is the time we usually see corn being harvested here. Because of the drought, the field closest to my house was harvested the first weekend of August. August! I remember because I drove by on a Sunday late afternoon and marveled that the field was down to the dirt. But, the corn was in bad shape and the farmer probably thought it was time. Well, I drove by the same field today, and much to my amazement, corn is growing. It's only a couple inches high and the field isn't completely covered in green. But it's growing. I'm guessing these plants are from seeds that dropped during the harvest, and combined with the good weather and rain over the last month or so, it decided to grow. We would never see this in a field harvested in October or November.

* On May 1, 1969, Mister Rogers went before the U.S. Senate to make the case against cutting PBS funding in half (seven minute video; worth the time; excellent). Spoiler alert: He got the money. (Via Josiah Bartlett, our other president.)
