Veterans Day

Inspection, circa 1930. (Full size.)

Graduation, circa 1930. (Full size.) I think both of those were at Great Lakes, and my dad's brother is in there somewhere.

Playing cards. (Full size.) I'm not sure where this is supposed to be. At one time I thought it might be in San Diego. But, the more I think about it, I think it might have been part of a promotion to get guys to join the Navy during peacetime, because that is definitely Kirk Douglas standing up there. Not sure. Probably not. I don't know. Open to suggestions.

* My son-in-law, Zach, wrote a short essay about a day in Afghanistan, with photos: Parlez-vous Français? I'm so proud of you.

* War widow waited 35 years for phone call. (Video.)

* Remembering the draft lottery.

* The 135th United States Naval Construction Battalion on Tinian.

* And when the band plays "Hail to the chief," they point the cannon at you..
