What is it?
I don't know what this is. It could be some kind of birch tree, but not the white birch we usually see around here. Here's a close-up of the bark:
Yes, I'm prowling the back alleys of Springfield looking for strange vegetation, so you don't have to.
* Speaking of strange, this boat looks like something one would see in a photo essay on a third world country. But, no, it's right over on the Mississippi.
* For anyone following this week's news about the Mississippi, I highly recommend taking a spin through this photo set from the Army Corps of Engineers. Amazing.
* Speaking of the news: "This isn't a battle against the water. This is a campaign." I sometimes wonder if the Army Corps of Engineers doesn't get so caught up in the science of things that they forget about the people.
