Monday musings

This morning at 6:53 a.m. Holding steady.

* I was writing a little story, which I was going to post tonight, about something strange I saw about a week ago, and then went back to yesterday. But as I was putting the words to paper (er, screen), it starting to sound like something out of an early Stephen King novel. Now, I'm wondering if it really happened. So, I'm still working on it.

* My mom's parents raised chickens for eggs during The Depression and after. My mom made a great fried chicken. Just amazing. So perfect. But she never ate chicken. Or any poultry, for that matter. She hated it. It was one food she refused to eat. She said she didn't like it because when she was a girl, the chickens pecked her hands when she gathered the eggs. Also, she told me the story of the time her dad put a chicken on a tree stump and chopped its head off. She said the headless chicken got up and started walking around the yard.

Anyway, their chicken coops and the shack that held them had long since been vacant by the time I came around. I did go in the shack once, even though I was forbidden from playing in there. I don't remember too much about it, except it was creepy. What I remember most is the day my grandpa and my dad burned it to the ground, and the high flames and the heat. That chicken house looked nothing like this.
