Thursday thingees

Yesterday's sunrise at 6:49 a.m. Notice the smoke from the power plant is blowing from south to north.

Today's sunrise at 6:56 a.m. The wind has changed and the smoke is blowing from the north to the south.

My wall. The upper left white piece of paper lists the Illinois child support rates. I keep this here so I don't have to memorize them, although I could.

As the bookkeeper for my office, the next thing is more a reminder to myself than to our clients: "The lawyer gets paid, or you don't have a lawyer."

Below that, something I constantly struggle with, "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the done." I stole that from Dan Brekke.

The last thing in that column, "comments, corrections, clarifications." Whenever I send someone a draft of their document, I include that language so I don't have to say, feel free to point out my typos, which is what I really want. So far, it's working.

Next column is a reminder of the rates for certified postage. I send a lot of certified mail, and it's easier to keep a little cheat sheet than to clutter my brain with memorizing this. The pink thing below is a reminder of everything I need to do to open a file. The business card is for the best process server on the South Side of Chicago, private investigator Mike Jones. He never sleeps. A man after my own heart.

Finally, the lavender paper was given to me by a colleague, and is something else I struggle with: "There comes a time in life when you have to let go of all the pointless drama and the people who create it and surround yourself with people who make you laugh so hard you forget the bad and focus solely on the good. After all, life is too short to be anything but happy."
