Future memories

Upper lagoon, Washington Park. The snow wasn't the freshest, but I was the only one there and it was so quiet. I closed my eyes to store the picture in my mind for this August, when it's so hot and so dry you can barely move.

* 7 Obscure, Remote and Super-Geeky Military Bases. (Seven that we know about.)

* Freedom means freedom for everyone. -- Dick Cheney, et al.

* Amazing photos of New York City's future East Side Access subway under construction. "The project will allow the Long Island Rail Road to access Grand Central Terminal for the first time." (I see granite countertops. Maybe.)

* Whenever I hear the word "sequester," I think of the old Holiday Inn on Halsted in Greektown in Chicago, where they used to put juries. The place was what you would call a real dump. I remember one day my boss came back from court and said, "we're going to lose." We represented the corporate defendant in a lengthy personal injury trial. Thinking some previously unknown tidbit of evidence had been revealed, I asked, how do you know? He said, "they sequestered the jury." Ah, I replied.
