I am leaving

The former Ellis's Your Out Inn a block down, on the left, re-opened this week. I can't remember the last time the Budweiser sign was lit up. Sometime last fall, probably. But, it's not just a tavern anymore. No, it's tavern and a gambling joint. it seems every bar in town has now become a place for legalized gambling. Even bars that were closed for months, years, have come back with gambling as the main feature. Is there any bar in town that isn't a casino? Is that the best we can do? Is that all we got? Do I sound like church lady? Sorry. But, damn.

* February 2014: Gaming gold rush: 81 Springfield establishments have video gambling machines.

* June 2014: Local Business Notes: 140 outlets, 405 terminals licensed as new city gambling ordinance takes effect:

May figures from the Illinois Gaming Board show $22.7 million was wagered and $20.9 million won in Springfield. The state’s share of taxes from gambling totaled nearly $450,000, while the city collected nearly $89,000.

* I haven't paid much attention to video gambling before now, but, wow, somebody's raking it in: Illinois video gaming statistics.

* I am leaving. But, I will still remain.
