You don't have to stay forever

It was a beautiful day for a walk in the woods.

Never walk up to the edge of the ravine, lest the ground gives way under your feet, you tumble to the bottom, get a broken leg, an eye poked out, and no cell service.

A flash of red.

Iles Park at sunset.

Sunset over the prairie. The two crows were a total surprise. I think they were crows. Might have been a couple low flying stealth bombers.

* Raw video of the deadly I-94 100 car accident in Michigan, yesterday. A truck hauling 40,000 pounds of consumer grade fireworks blew up in the crash. More video of the fireworks. And more.

* We're getting a new governor on Monday. Among other things, he has pledged to make Springfield the seat of Illinois government, again. He also said he will live in the mansion in Springfield, unlike our last couple governors. This means a lot to some people. Personally, I don't know if it's all that necessary. If the work gets done, who cares where you live? That said, I really do hope he moves here.

All of which brings me to this article, Rauner talks of dogs, housing and the work ahead as governor, which I've been meaning to respond to. In particular:

He said he was looking forward to making Springfield his new home as of inauguration day — Jan. 12.
“I want to know where is the best place to get a good burger, where is the best place to get a good steak, where I can run my bird dogs, where (are) some of the best roads to ride my Harley,” he said.

I'll take these in reverse order.

Well, because we're a bunch of weed chewing hicks, we don't ride our motorcycles on the road. No, we take the fenders off and go riding through the creek beds to get the non-political mud throwing out of our systems.

Yeah, we're trying to get a dog park. But because this is Springfield, there's a fight over it, involving... you guessed it: politics and money.

Um, steak? What is steak?

The best place to get a good burger? Now, you're talking my language. When we want a really good burger, we hop on the Amtrak and high-tail it to Chicago, of course.

Hey, I'm just having a little fun with you. In any event, welcome to Springfield. You'll love it here.

* I will understand... (Dusty.)
